Watch Out for Debbie Downers

26 December, 2009 (13:40) | Exploring Law of Attraction | By: Lanore

Debbie Downer, the hilariously pessimistic character played by Rachel Dratch on Saturday Night Live makes regular appearances in our own lives. Only the real life versions of Debbie Downer aren’t so funny and the dark warnings they offer usually emanate from several, rather than a single character, in our own lives. These individuals usually mean well and unlike the SNL Debbie Downer, don’t relish raining on your parade. Not only have we all had experiences with Debbie Downers, we’ve all been guilty of the same sort of behavior.

Unlike the SNL character who seems to genuinely enjoy casting a dark shadow on joyous occasions, real life Debbie Downers usually will offer comments and unsolicited advice for “your own good.” They’re just being “realistic.” Sometimes the information they offer is exactly what you’ve been wanting to hear in the case of being discouraged from doing something you didn’t want to do anyway. Other times you just wish they’d keep their traps shut.

No matter how you feel about what Debbie Downers offers, rest assured, you attracted them into your experience. If you needed their discouragement, this is not a problem. But if you really don’t desire the sort of commentary they offer, and especially if you find yourself being forced to deal with a Debbie Downer frequently, you might consider asking yourself what in your vibration might be attracting them. Possibly you do not trust yourself to make decisions about a certain area in your life or perhaps you have fears about making the wrong decision regarding a particular subject in which Debbie Downer has chimed in.

Whatever the cause of the attraction, allow it to be and realize you are the one in power. By your allowance and the attunement of your vibration, and by the decisions you make about the quality of your vibration, you can stop attracting Debbie Downer except when you really desire to have her input.

Make a decision to have clarity about your desires and decisions. Decide to trust that you will make good decisions regarding your experiences and that you will be able to fine tune your decisions as you gain greater clarity regarding a given subject. These decisions do not necessarily mean you will be supremely confident about all things at all times. But they will help you to grow increasingly more confident each time you remind yourself of the decisions you made about trusting the wisdom of your decisions and your ability to fine tune them. Debbie Downer won’t be able to manifest in, much less survive, a vibration of such certainty.
