Is Law of Attraction Cruel?

19 January, 2010 (08:44) | Exploring Law of Attraction | By: Lanore

Mentioning Law of Attraction at the same time the devastation of Haiti unfolds before our eyes indeed seems unnecessarily cruel, just as pointing out the link between smoking and lung cancer seems cruel when discussing the subject with a lung cancer patient who is a heavy smoker. Yet, cruel and tactless behavior does not negate the connection.

Unlike the connection between smoking and cancer, however, the natural disaster in Haiti seems more arbitrary. Certainly the Haitians weren’t collectively focused on an earthquake to destroy what little they had. No. The devastation caught everyone unaware—nothing could have prepared these poor people for such overwhelming destruction. But why were these people so poor, their structures and infrastructures so flimsy? Why were they living in conditions that by American lifestyle standards weren’t fit for human beings?

Questions like these can stir anger as well they should when Law of Attraction is used in a “blame the victim” context. But I think only those who misunderstand Law of Attraction apply it in such a context—sort of like the way Pat Robertson applies his hateful understanding of Christianity .

It’s true, Law of Attraction is always at work. But if you’re unaware of the power you hold to attract your own reality, you are creating in default—in other words, you might as well not have any power to create your own reality at all. You are at the mercy of the vibrational climate in which you live. Your vibrations are in tune with your surroundings and the people in your life and collectively you will unconsciously draw experiences that match that vibration. How great can your vibration be when you are unaware of your power to shift your vibration, when you and those around you live in abject poverty, when your basic needs are not met, when your children have no education and inadequate nutrition, and you have little hope for a brighter future?

Asking people to vibrate their way out of such conditions is like telling a clinically depressed person to just cheer up. It doesn’t do any good and it’s just plain cruel. First of all, people need to be educated in the ways in which they can use their vibration to attract more of what they want. If they don’t have that basic knowledge, they will never move beyond default creations of the masses.

In the Bible (Matthew 13:11-12) Christ tells his disciples “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more and will have abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.” Christ’s words help me understand why those without knowledge of Law of Attraction are more vulnerable than those who do have the knowledge. If you have the knowledge, these words are logical. There is no “blame the victim” issue here. If anything is to blame, its ignorance of the Law of Attraction. But who can deny that ignorance causes a lot of pain and suffering on this planet?

In response to the tragedy of Haiti, which is a tragedy for all of us, I propose we not only send money to a reputable aid organization (I recommend Doctors Without Borders), but we take it a step further by sharing the knowledge of Law of Attraction with someone who doesn’t have it. And that we share our knowledge in a way that empowers instead of blames. We see people every day who can benefit from knowledge of Law of Attraction. We may never know the ways such knowledge benefits them, but we can be assured that by our sharing, we have done what we could to lessen the pain and suffering on this planet.
